Home Horizon is a charitable organization, founded in 2006 by a group of citizens actively involved in social service and charity work in the Georgian Triangle area. This group included the Director of My Friend's House, the Director of the Salvation Army, a counsellor with the Mental Health Unit, the Chair of Collingwood's Affordable Housing Committee and representatives of several community churches.
Home Horizon offers
A Place to Live:
Home Horizon provides safe temporary housing for up to one year. Clients contribute to the cost of their housing, within their means to do so, and commit to the counselling and development programs specifically designed to meet their needs.
Home Horizon rents modest housing units in well-maintained neighbourhoods, with good access to schools, shopping, health care and community services. Each unit is well equipped, comfortably furnished and maintained by local churches and service clubs. This very economical "model" for providing our services has been highly commended by both government and social service agencies.
A Support Program:
The purpose of the support program is to assure our clients receive the opportunity and the assistance they need to re-establish productive and secure lives for themselves and their families. Qualified counsellors work closely with each client to develop realistic objectives in areas the client may be experienceing difficulty and regularly assess their progress towards these objectives.
Where to from Here?
Our model is excellent. Our success has been remarkable. We could do so much more. Stabliized funding with the help of private donors would allow us to expand our program. An additional staff member and more housing units would allow us to serve many more families in need. For more information, or to make a donation, please
